Chicago is the home of some of my favorite rappers in the industry. From Kanye West to Li'l Chano (Chance the Rapper), Chicago has raised some of the best musicians in the world. One of those you should watch out for, however, is Young Dolph.
Adolph Thornton, Jr., born on the 11th of August, 1985, in Chicago, Illinois, is an American rapper who goes by the name of Young Dolph. When Thornton released his debut studio album titled 'King of Memphis,' it peaked at the high 40s on the Billboard 200 chart--a feat not every debut album can achieve.
On top of that, he was also featured on O.T. Genasis's hit single, 'Cut It,' which blew up and made its way to number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100.
When Thornton was two years old, his family moved to Memphis, Tennessee. He has siblings as well--two sisters and two brothers. At such an early age, Young Dolph had a passion for music. In 2008, his grandmother passed away and he turned to music to gather his thoughts and express them at the same time.
He would always rap about his family. Take, for example, one of the lyrics in his track, 'Preach,' that said:
Mama always in the streets, so guess who raised me?
It would always be hinting at how he was raised by no one and even said how his parents were smoking crack at one point.
His breakout to the world was through O.T. Genasis's single in 2015, 'Cut It,' which went on to place 35 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2016, he followed it by making his debut through his album, 'King of Memphis,' which was met by both critique and praise from fans all around the world--ranking 49th on the US Billboard 200.
After the success of his debut album, it became a path for him to even more knowledge of the world of music--specifically the rapping realm. Years passed and he released a handful more of mixtapes and singles which are, but not limited to, 'High-Class Street Music,' 'A Time 2 Kill,' 'Blue Magic,' and 'Felix Brothers.'
2017 proved to be one of the biggest years for Young Dolph having released his next album in 'Bulletproof' which reached 36th on the US Billboard 200. In the same year, he released 'Tracking Numbers' and 'Thinking Out Loud' as his next albums--to which both were also worldwide phenomenons, especially the latter which peaked at number 16 on the US Billboard 200.

At the age of 35, Young Dolph isn't so much of 'young' anymore. However, his music does transcend to every age and nationality--making him one of the most diverse rappers to ever be part of the industry.
